A Clockwork Anniversary

Providence Preservation Society goes steampunk to celebrate 60 years

Posted

Since 1956, the Providence Preservation Society has been advocating for thoughtful planning and design across the city. Originally formed to spare the College Hill neighborhood from demolition, PPS has been active in making sure that the Providence’s historic buildings and neighborhoods are properly preserved for future generations. It’s with that appreciation for the past while looking towards the future that they will be marking their 60th anniversary.

PPS will throw A Steampunk Soiree on Saturday February 20 at the Steel Yard. That means Victorian-era finery with the anachronistic touches of cooler-than-functional clockwork tech, brass gizmos and goggles. Lots and lots of goggles. Don’t have an authentic looking, late 19th century wind-up automaton that doubles as a fetching brooch? Fear not, future person. Steampunk accessories will be available for sale, and local steampunk cosplayers the Red Fork Empire will be onhand to show you how to wear it well.

In addition to the costumed festivities, guests will be treated to the death defying acts of fire artists and aerialists, plus lots of complimentary edibles courtesy of some of PVD’s best restaurants. Tickets are $45 in advance or $50 at the door. VIP tickets are available for $100 and come with extra perks, like all you can drink Prosecco and exclusive access to the Steel Lounges. Get tickets here.
