All in the Family

From the outside, you couldn’t see a difference: Besos Kitchen & Cocktails looked the same as ever, an elegant eatery housed in a former 19th century tavern in East Greenwich. The name and decor seemed the same, as did the menu. But something had changed in April: Besos was purchased by The Martucci Group, one of the largest restaurant operators in Rhode Island.

“When we decided to move on, we set out to find someone who would appreciate the people, ideas, hard work, and historic value that make Besos so unique,” said Kristin Della Grotta, who opened the restaurant with her husband Mike in 2011, in a statement. “We are honored to pass the baton from one Italian family to another.”

What does this mean to the average Besos fan? Minor change and slow evolution. But the most immediate perk is Besos’ new siblings: Martucci already owns Safehouse Modern Neighborhood Eatery and The Trap Brew Pub & Grill – also located in East Greenwich – as well as the Chianti Catering company. Members of the Martucci Group loyalty program can rack up points toward their next visit, and they can even download a Martucci Group app, which can help make reservations and anticipate wait times.

The most important things will remain intact: the wraparound porch for al fresco dining, the trademark grilled pizza, and the rainbow of craft cocktails showcasing local ingredients. Some traditions are sacred. East Greenwich
