Green Line Apothecary is the Pharmacy That Time Forgot

The Wakefield pharmacy is good for aches, pains and a sweet tooth

Posted

It’s hard not to fall in love with the quirks of Wakefield – walking down historic Main Street feels like you’re about to become part of a communal dance number. Hold the show tunes, because adding to this small-town feel is Christina and Ken Procaccianti’s newly opened Green Line Apothecary. Inspired by vintage pharmacies, this family-owned and operated shop transports you back in time, complete with doo-wop tunes and, of course, the classic soda bar.

But this isn’t just any old soda fountain – the restored piece of history from the ‘40s serves all-natural, made-to-order sodas and floats made with organic ice cream. That’s right, all the ingredients to make these classic drinks are natural, right down to the organic green sprinkles. For Christina and Ken, it is all about “bringing it back to the roots” of the profession – combining the personalized customer service of the past with both the modern and holistic worlds of medicine. And if you have any questions, Christina will gladly answer them and remember you by name.

As both the owner and head pharmacist, Christina has found herself in the independently owned pharmacy business nearly all of her life. Her passion for the profession can be found throughout Green Line Apothecary, from the smiles exchanged to the shelves stocked. Everything you find is Christina’s interpretation of “pharmacist recommended” – not just professionally chosen products, but personally chosen. You can shop around for essentials like Tylenol and cold medicine, and on the same shelf you’ll find holistic, natural options. Even local products like Aquidneck Island Honey and soaps and scrubs from Newport’s Shore Soap Company can be found at Green Line. Christina aims for the sweet spot between the homeopathic and modern medicinal worlds – and when Green Line Apothecary accepts most insurances, who can refuse a root beer float while you wait for your prescription?
