Posted

Name: Harrison Grigsby
Age: 31
Hometown: Providence
Currently lives in: North Providence
Occupation: College Advisor. Creator. Graduate Student at Rhode Island College

What’s your background?
I was born and raised in Providence and my mother is from West Africa (Sierra Leone). I’m one of the lucky ones who was able to see the social progression of Providence to where it is today (I remember the first Arcade). This May, I’ll receive my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and I just started a small business so I’m excited for what’s to come for me. I’m fortunate that all aspects of my life allow me to impact people in a positive way. Whether it’s my career as a counselor, a musician, or just my person, I affect someone and that’s pretty trill.

How do you like to spend your time?
Fortune favors the brave, so I’m always active and looking for a new experience. I live a healthy lifestyle but I wouldn’t consider myself a gym buff or cross fit disciple. I just like to preserve my sexy. I am a huge music lover with an extensive playlist that includes Emeli Sande, Gunplay, and James Taylor. For a nice dining experience, my favorite places are Los Andes and Kitchen Bar on the East Side. I love places that encourage a good time, so Point St. Dueling Pianos is always fun. I’m a glutton for live concerts so more often than not you might catch me at Yeezus or a Train show. I host the Providence College Men’s Basketball games at The Dunkin Donuts Center and I enjoy it because it’s literally one big party and the whole city is invited every week.

What’s something that people would be surprised to know about you?
I ran my first 10k race this summer and was in a Tyler Perry movie (Madea’s Witness Protection).

What appeals to you in the opposite sex?
I’m an observer so I really appreciate ingenuity and an open mind. Just be yourself and don’t compromise your story for the sake of gaining my acceptance. If you’re able to have a smart conversation but not take life so seriously, you’re cool in my book.

Lack of ambition or passion is something that’s non-negotiable. Know where you want to be and that’s a good start for me. I appreciate a good sense of style and it doesn’t necessarily have to be about the labels either. I don’t really have a preference when it comes to women. I’m pretty much an equal opportunity lover.

What makes a good date?
You know a date is good when it doesn’t feel like one, if that makes sense: when it’s good mixture of laughs and getting to know one another without it being so awkward or scripted. If I’m feeling someone, I’ll initiate contact and take it from there. I’m not really shy when it comes to what I want.

What’s your take on dating in Providence?
Based on my experience, if you aren’t willing to try new activities or go to new venues/establishments then this city will feel smaller than it already is. I think an open mind will allow you to meet new people that aren’t in your circuit. I have fun meeting people in Wayland Square, Foxwoods, Thayer Street, Downtown, pubs, and lounges. You’ll be surprised at the interesting people that this city has to offer if you step out of your comfort zone.
