PrideFest Comes to PVD

Providence celebrates the LGBT community

Posted

Sporting the slogan, “triumph and transformation,” Rhode Island PrideFest is gearing up for its 39th Annual event this Saturday, June 21, in Providence. For generations, sexual minorities have been feared and discriminated against. Rhode Island celebrates its acceptance of diversity and the GLBT community by rallying the city of Providence and the surrounding areas in a day full of festivities.

RI Pride is a non-profit organization incorporated in the state of Rhode Island. It is managed and operated by volunteers and staff who recognize and support the GLBT community. Their mission is to create opportunities for integrating and promoting visibility for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community. The organization also promotes equal rights and provides safe opportunities for individuals to express their identities.

The festival starts at noon on the Providence Waterfront on South Water Street in Providence and features live entertainment, Kids Zone, vendors, food and more. This year’s event will feature performances by Niki Haris, David Hernandez, Aiden James, Xelle, and Carrie Ashton. The Illuminated Night Parade will begin at 8:30pm.

RI PrideFest 2014 is free of admission, but VIP tickets are available for The Rainbow Room VIP lounge, featuring an up-close view of the stage, fast service, refreshments and more. To purchase tickets, please visit the RI Pride website.
