The epic Disney musical Fantasia will be celebrating its 75th anniversary this weekend on Sunday. First released in 1940, Fantasia has been hailed as one of the all-time greatest animations ever released. Stop by to see beautiful illustrations set against the sweeping backdrops of seven different classical compositions, from the now iconic Sorcerer's Apprentice to the harrowing Night on Bald Mountain. Even after all of these years, Fantasia remains a timeless example of the magic of cinema.

Winner of the People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, the family drama Room will be starting this Friday. This harrowing film follows a mother and son as they venture out into the world after being held captive in an old shed for several years. Behind this thrilling concept lies a movie with critically acclaimed performances from its lead actors Brie Larson and Jacob Tremlay.

Cable Car
Love, the new film by French provocateur Gaspar Noé, will be opening at the Cable Car this weekend. Following up the heady, psychedelic Enter The Void with a more carnal and intimate story, Love tells the story of a young man searching for his missing ex-girlfriend while recalling their passionate, drugged out, and often tender love affair. To make things even more tempting, Noé shot the film in 3D, which will make this screening experience one filled with some, well, interesting situations.

Sebastián Silva's Nasty Baby continues to play at Cable Car throughout the weekend. This seemingly innocuous indie follows artists Freddy and Mo as they appeal to their friend, Polly, to be the surrogate mother to their baby. What follows is a cozy little film that ends in a dramatically tragic, Shakespearean turn of events that made some serious waves at Sundance this year.

Playing into next week is documentary Meet The Patels, a comedic look into the life of Ravi Patel as he manages the madness that occurs when cultures clash in the name of love. What elevates this documentary, however, is how it reveals the often unexplored issues that lie beneath stories with this set-up, such as questions of cultural assimilation and the complex nature of tradition.

The Austrian horror film Goodnight Mommy, which has already terrified most of the internet with its trailer alone, will be playing this weekend. Set in an isolated lakeside house, Goodnight Mommy tells the visceral story of two brothers as they deal with the changes their mother has undergone due to her cosmetic facial surgery, both in her appearance and in her behavior. Produced by the infamously punishing Ulrich Seidl, director of 2013's Paradise trilogy, this brutal film specializes in shredding nerves and making skin crawl.

Jane Pickens
James Vanderbilt's Truth stars Robert Redford in the role of Dan Rather in this gripping political drama. Truth follows the Killian documents controversy of 2004, when memos concerning George W. Bush's lackluster military service were publicly scrutinized after a report on 60 Minutes. Based on producer Mary Mapes' memoir, Truth also stars Cate Blanchett and Elisabeth Moss.

Fantasia's 75th Anniversary special will also be screening at the Jane Pickens this Sunday.
