The merchants and neighbors of Hope Street aren't the types to let a little road construction get in the way of a grand old time. Their annual Spring Block Party returns this Saturday, May 19 noon-6pm), undaunted by lane closures and general tearing up of the street. This year's party once again features a local beer garden courtesy of Trinity Brewhouse, Grey Sail, Foolproof, Narragansett and Newport storm, with all proceeds benefiting Festival Ballet, along with a variety of food trucks; music by local favorites Ravi Shavi, The Rice Cakes, The Silks and Extraordinary Rendition Band; sidewalk sales; kids' activities; hayrides and pedi-cab rides; open dance classes; and the chance to win an iPad or hundreds of dollars in gift certificates to Hope Street merchants in a fun scavenger hunt/trivia game. Over 500 people attended last year, and this year should be even bigger and better. It's the first great party of the season and a chance to get a pre-Memorial Day head start on summer fun. See you on Hope Street.
