Music doesn’t just accompany the movement in Sound in Form – it drives it, shapes it, and often shares the spotlight. This June, Revolve Dance Project (RDP) returns for its fourth season with a bold new performance at The Strand Ballroom & Theatre, showcasing world-premiere works where live music and dance meet in perfect synchrony.
Set for Sunday, June 29, with performances at 2pm and 6pm, Sound in Form brings together top-tier talent from across the country for a one-of-a-kind celebration of original music and choreography. Husband-and-wife duo Kirsten and Cameron MacIntosh founded RDP as a launchpad for creative risk-taking and interdisciplinary performance, and the project continues to thrive on that mission.
“The Strand is a perfect space for us,” says RDP Director Kirsten MacIntosh. “Our project pushes the boundaries of live music and dance and celebrates the many ways these two art forms help each other thrive.”
This season’s lineup features seven world premieres and the return of last year’s standout piece, Runner’s High, a collaboration between choreographer Kurt Douglas and composer Daniel Hass. Highlights include a pas de deux choreographed by New York City Ballet’s Laine Habony for fellow company members Indiana Woodward and Gilbert Bolden III, set to a score by Juilliard-trained composer Katie Jenkins; a dynamic ensemble work by Boston choreographer Dara Capley with music by singer-songwriter Katie Martucci; and Bones, an explosive collaboration from Lauren Lovette, Cameron MacIntosh, and Daniel Hass.
The cast draws talent from Ballet West, Boston Ballet, Juilliard, and Grammy-winning circles, blending neoclassical ballet with modern, jazz, and indie styles. This inventive process unfolds during an intensive three-week residency that runs alongside RDP’s community education initiative with Metamorphosis Dance Company in Pawtucket – giving students of all levels access to masterclasses in ballet, jazz, choreography, and more.
