Shake Up Centro's Anacapri Cocktail

Summer and autumn combine in liquid form

Posted

September is a Janus-faced month. Summer flickers at the edge of our collective rearview mirror – yeah, we have one – and fall has announced itself, but hasn’t settled in yet. A kind of existential schizophrenia reigns: School’s back in session but beach bags stay packed, just in case. Wardrobe choices vacillate from grandpa sweaters to tissue-thin tank tops, dependent upon the ever-changing weather. And for dedicated boozehounds, cocktail choices run the gamut, too. Do we want the liquid equivalent of a sweater, or a tank top? Is it a margarita kind of day, or one for neat whiskey? What year is it and who’s the President?

Forget that chaos. At Providence’s Centro Restaurant and Lounge, Amanda Albanese pours an Italian-inspired drink that mixes echoes of summer – cucumber, gin and mint – with an autumnal dose of Aperol, a bracing, bitter liqueur. Order it at Centro, or make one at home, and raise a glass to this ‘tweener season.
