With Brown’s campus cleared out for the summer, you can now enjoy Thayer Street without the crowds. Grab a bite from one of the many delicious, quick carryout restaurants, take it outside to a bench, and don’t miss a minute of summer sunshine while you still can.
All Wrapped Up
You cannot miss out on East Side Pockets’ warm and juicy Chicken Kabob wrap. It’s perfectly filling and packed with yummy and fresh ingredients, like chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, tabouleh and a hint of flavorful hot sauce, yet still manages to be light and refreshing. The colorful combination of flavors and textures in a tight and compact wrap makes this the ideal on-the-go meal. 278 Thayer Street, 453-1100.
Nacho Typical Salad
From Baja’s Tex Mex Grill, we tried their Taco Salad. Perfect to take on the go, one of our staff members commented how easy it would be to eat in the car if you were in a hurry. This salad is served in a crispy flour tortilla and is packed with fresh romaine lettuce, black beans, corn salad, jalapeños, pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream and mouthwatering smoky, tender carnitas topped with three cheeses and corn salsa. 273 Thayer Street, 383-7079.
The Best Bagel North of NY
“It’s everything I want in a bagel sandwich,” one of our staff members said of Bagel Gourmet Ole’s classic egg and cheese on an everything bagel. Toasted to perfection, just enough to maintain a bit of chewiness, and two fresh eggs and melty white American cheese, this sandwich is satisfying for any quick meal or snack. 288 Thayer Street, 331-1311.
The Flatter the Better
Pizza gets an exquisite organic twist at Flatbread Company. We tried their pepperoni mushroom pizza and were smitten. The thin and crispy wood-fired crust was excellent and all the ingredients were totally fresh. Topped with mushrooms, tasty pepperoni, flavorful sauce and a mix of herbs, this pizza was thoroughly light, not greasy. 161 Cushing Street, 273-2737.
