For Scottish football fans, the summer of 2026 represents a moment decades in the making. For the first time in 28 years, Scotland has qualified for the FIFA World Cup – and Scottish alt-rock favorites Del Amitri are planning to celebrate the occasion in style with a pair of special New England performances.
The band will bring its “Flying Haggis Supper Club” to The Strand in Providence on June 17 and Royale in Boston on June 18, transforming the concerts into a home-away-from-home celebration for Scotland’s famously passionate “Tartan Army.” The performances will feature special guests, surprises, and exclusive giveaways, blending the energy of a rock concert with the excitement of World Cup fever.
The shows hold particular significance for Del Amitri, whose connection to Scottish football runs deep. The band wrote “Don’t Come Home Too Soon,” the official song for Scotland’s 1998 World Cup in France, when they previously appeared on soccer’s biggest stage before returning this summer.
Formed in Glasgow, Del Amitri became one of the defining British alternative rock bands of the late 1980s and 1990s, powered by the songwriting partnership of founding members Justin Currie and Iain Harvie. Their catalog includes radio-friendly favorites such as “Nothing Ever Happens,” “Kiss This Thing Goodbye,” “Always the Last to Know,” and the international hit “Roll to Me.”
The Providence stop offers local music fans a rare chance to see a band with a rich catalog of beloved songs while also taking part in a uniquely Scottish celebration – one where guitars, football chants, and national pride will share the same stage. Learn more at TheStrandRI.com
