Friendly Bicycle

Full-service bike shop

What it is:

A full-service bike shop offering sales, service, parts, and custom builds.

Where to find it:

Find Friendly Bicycle just off Wickenden Street on Ives Street, next door to Club Frills. If the shop is open, the rows of bikes on the sidewalk out front are a clear giveaway you found it.

What makes it a Rhody Gem?

The shop is a true labor of love for owner/founder Eamon McGlynn, who started Friendly Bicycle in 2016 as a Craigslist business operating out of his apartment off Broadway. “At the time I would purchase vintage road bicycles, fix them up and resell them, all via Craigslist,” he explains. He shares that an apartment switch was the catalyst for renting a garage on Ives Street in 2018, which then became his work space; upon learning that the garage was commercially zoned, he decided to make things legit as a more standard, albeit miniature, bike shop. “My focus was still on fixing up and reselling vintage steel road bicycles, mainly high-end and custom-built bikes from Italy and Japan. I still love those types of bikes and carry some at all times, but have shifted focus to more standard city-friendly bicycles and servicing the many bikes of the surrounding communities,” says McGlynn. The shop currently carries both new and used bicycles, and all types of bicycle parts and components, with a focus on indie manufacturers. “Our summer plans include fixing all the bikes,” says McGlynn. “And hopefully having time to go on rides ourselves!”
