Change is on the menu at Track 15, and this spring, it’s arriving hot, handmade, and full of personality. The downtown Providence food hall is welcoming two new vendors, Grumpy Pies and Yagi Noodles, ushering in a fresh chapter while saying goodbye to two familiar names.
After anchoring the space with a taste of Newport, Giusto PVD and Mother Pizzeria PVD will step away to refocus on their original locations. “It was an incredible honor to have been part of this landmark project and to bring a little taste of Newport to Providence,” says Kevin O’Donnell, chef and owner of Giusto.
Taking over the former Mother Pizzeria space is Grumpy Pies, a new concept from chef Ian Cappelano that spotlights Roman-style “pizza alla pala.” Think long, crisp-edged pies served by the slice, with toppings that range from classic to what Cappelano calls “trashy” favorites. “I am excited for the opportunity to open Grumpy Pies at Track 15,” he says. “It will showcase an underrepresented style of pizza in a vibrant space.”
Later this spring, Yagi Noodles will open its second location in the space previously occupied by Giusto. Known for its Asian-inspired comfort food and handmade noodles, the Newport favorite brings serious culinary credentials with it. Co-owner Chef Basil Yu, a recent James Beard semifinalist, sees the move as a natural next step. “The timing could not be better for us to bring Yagi Noodles to a broader audience,” he says.
For Track 15 owner Chris Marsella, the transition reflects something deeper than a simple lineup change. “The strength of the culinary community here in Rhode Island is what brought us to this moment,” he says, pointing to the close-knit connections between chefs that helped shape the new additions.
